Terminal Services

This white paper introduces Terminal Services Licensing, the client license management service for Windows® 2000 Server. Terminal Services Licensing service works with Terminal Services to provide, catalog, and enforce license policy among Terminal Services clients.

Terminal Services is a configurable service incorporated into the Windows® 2000 Server operating system that delivers the Windows 2000 Professional desktop and 32-bit Windows-based applications to diverse desktop platforms. This paper provides guidelines for ensuring that applications run well under Windows 2000 Terminal Services. It also provides information on enhancing the user experience by tuning the application for the Terminal Services environment and taking advantage of the capabilities that Terminal Services provides.

This white paper discusses the additional features and improved performance of Microsoft's Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) in Windows® 2000 Terminal Services.

Windows® 2000 Terminal Services is an integral part of Windows 2000 technology that delivers the Windows graphical user interface through a server-based computing model. This white paper provides an introduction to Terminal Services, including its use as an application server, as well as using it to remotely administer other servers in the network. The components and tools that are integrated into Terminal Services are described, and their benefits to administrators and clients are detailed.
