Joe Miller opened with prayer and welcomed the Grace Honduras Mission Home Team to the meeting. Jerry Patee briefly reviewed the last meeting and ensured that everyone has been receiving copies of the minutes via electronic mail.

Joe Miller updated everyone on the latest news from Honduras Outreach International (HOI) and El Quebrachal including, among other things, information about the well project. In addition, Joe discussed the Rotary organization and its levels of matching fund raising activities for the well project.

Greta Miller provided a brief description of the Honduras Home Team categories and activities (Fiesta, School, Home Kits, etc.) and leaders were selected for each category. Leaders are as follows:

Fiesta – Judi Creneti

School – Kerry Fradley

Home Kits – Teresa Cipriano

Suit Cases – Kim Hatfield

Sewing/Fabric – Crystal Sarno

Scholarships – Mary Ellen Davis

Well – Joe Miller

Administrator – Joe Miller and Mike Hatfield

It was determined during the discussion that some specific questions needed to be addressed. Specifically, what restrictions, if any, are in place by American airlines for how many or what items we take on the airplane to Honduras? In addition, what is the reliability of shipping items to Honduras? Teresa Cipriano volunteered to contact American airlines and HOI to ask these specific questions and to report to the Home Team at the next meeting. Teresa will also ask HOI if the sewing/fabric is still needed.

Sarah Cipriano volunteered to gather information regarding shots and passports. In addition, Mike Hatfield will make copies of an informational packet used by the Honduras Mission Team last year that has some, if not all, of this information. Copies will be distributed at the next meeting to those going to Honduras.

The Reverend Jay Click reviewed Grace Church’s mission activities for the coming months and provided the Home Team with a message that it would be necessary to educate and advocate the Honduras mission and village activities to the congregation. Specifically, the Home Team would take Sunday, April 14, 2002, and make it "an HOI Fiesta Sunday." The Home Team would, among other things, host a program and fellowship after the 10:45 a.m. worship service to target funding by focusing on two elements of the mission such as the well project and scholarships. In addition, a quilt raffle and/or silent auction of donated items may be another part of this program. Bob McClelland was appointed as the point of contact for the Fiesta program and Sarah Cipriano volunteered to produce promotional posters.

In addition, each week in Minutes for Mission / Giving Opportunities, certain areas could be highlighted:

June16 - Honduras School Supplies

June 23- Honduras Home Kit Supplies

June 30- Honduras Suitcase Donations

July 7- Commission Honduras Mission Team

July 28- Honduras Mission Team reports during Sunday Service

Mary Ellen Davis was designated as the liaison between the Service and Mission Committee and the Honduras Home Team and she will share the above-mentioned information with the committee and then advise and report any changes and/or confirmations of the above dates and activities.

Following are some important dates for informational purposes:

July 13 - (Saturday) Mission Team leaves for Honduras

July 20 - (Saturday) Mission Team returns from Honduras

Our next meeting will be February 17, 2002, at 12:00 in a room to be determined. It was decided that the first 30 minutes of the next meeting would be allotted for specific group meetings and then we would convene as a whole to hear reports from the team leaders. Greta Miller closed the meeting with prayer and the Home Team adjourned at 1:41 p.m.

The following are action items for the next meeting in February.

  1. Teresa Cipriano volunteered to contact American airlines and HOI to ask travel questions mentioned above and to report to the Home Team at the next meeting. Teresa will also ask HOI if the sewing/fabric is still needed.
  2. Sarah Cipriano volunteered to gather information regarding shots and passports.
  3. Mike Hatfield will make copies of an informational packet used by the Honduras Mission Team last year. Copies will be distributed at the next meeting to those going to Honduras.
