Joe Miller welcomed the group
and opened the meeting with prayer. Joe reminded the group that the
Mission team will leave on June 28 and return on July 5. In addition,
Joe advised that according to Sue Church at Honduras Outreach, Inc.
(HOI) all monies to travel to Honduras are due earlier this year. As a
result, Mission team members due dates are as follows: The total cost of
the trip is $1,050. Some grants are available to those expressing a
financial need. The initial deposit of $500 is due to Mike Hatfield by
Thursday, May 1. The remaining $550 balance, application, passport
copies, and releases are due to Mike by Tuesday, May 13 (this will allow
Mike to get the complete package to HOI by May 15). Please make all
checks payable to Grace Presbyterian Church. Also, Mission team members
were reminded to be cognizant of the medical shots and passport
requirements and deadlines that are necessary to travel to Honduras.
Greta Miller gave a brief
overview and background of the logistics and activities of past Honduras
trips. Greta noted that about to date eight people have signed up to
travel this year; however, it is hoped that more will come forward. The
Mission team will be assigned a new village this year, but will have an
opportunity to go last year’s village too. Joe will be calling
Manassas Presbyterian Church to check on the number of participants from
their congregation.
Joe called for volunteers to
lead the various Home Team committees. They are as follows:
- Hygiene
Kits – Bob McClelland and Greta Miller – will need about 200
kits for both villages.
- Children
Activities/Children to Children Drawings – Nancy Sterling (in
conjunction with Grace’s Sunday School teachers).
- Sewing
Kits/Fabric – Martha Rupel (in conjunction with women’s groups
at Grace).
- School
Supplies – Beth Ann McClelland and Judy Riekse – will need 200
school supplies for both villages. There will be a call for school
supplies donations from Grace’s congregation.
- Bubbles
and Fixings – Nancy Sterling’s sister, Paula, from Tampa, Fla.
- La
Fiesta at Village – Christina Tosi and Heather Potter
- Home
Care Packets – perhaps just work gloves this year.
- Suitcases
(or alternatives) – Greg and Peggy Suess
- Fiesta
at Church – Nancy Sterling and Heather Potter. Bob McClelland will
cook. The Fiesta will be on Sunday, June 15. Sue Church from HOI
will attend.
Joe announced that the next
Honduras meeting would be on Sunday, April 27, 2003, immediately after
the congregational meeting. The meeting was closed with prayer.
Respectfully submitted,
Mike Hatfield
