Our Mission Trip to Honduras
Grace Presbyterian Church has gone to Honduras
for the last four years starting in 2000.
Rancho el Paraiso (“The Ranch”), the heart
of the ministry in Olancho, is a working and demonstration ranch
employing over 50 Hondurans. The Ranch is supported by Honduras
Outreach, Inc., which is a transdenomenational mission program dedicated
to improving lives of residents of and visitors to the Agalta Valley in
Olancho Honduras. The Ranch is also the temporary home of visiting
mission groups. Groups stay in one of two dorms, both of which have
several large rooms that comfortably sleep eight people. Bathrooms have
modern facilities, including hot water showers and typical North
American fixtures. Facilities are basically like a nice camp house, and
a bilingual staff person will be dedicated to your group during the
week.
What is a Typical Trip?
The mission experience begins early on Saturday at the airport.
You fly into Tegucigalpa, Honduras where you are met by HOI staff. They
take you to Juticalpa, the halfway point of your trip to Rancho el
Paraiso, where you spend the night in a hotel and have dinner at a local
restaurant. After breakfast the next morning you continue to the ranch.
Sunday afternoons are a leisurely introduction to the ranch and your
village. Monday morning starts your work project, and you work in the
same village each day. Evenings are a great time for group gatherings,
and HOI has scheduled some activities. On Friday morning you leave for
Tegucigalpa arriving in time for shopping and dinner.
